Description
I painted this picture for an exhibition theme of ‘Simple Pleasures’. I wanted to paint really kitsch, quirky and fun still lifes of ornaments and trinkets I have collected over the years. They all hold different memories and looking upon them lets me reflect on happy times, travels and loved ones.
I love the way this painting turned out and the friendly dynamic between the three characters. The mug came from a second hand shop beside my studio. I looked it up and it was a promotional mug for KP crisps from the 1980s. The penguin was a gift from Spain and I bought the hippo in Finland. It’s based on the popular fairy tale Moomin characters and it is also a bell.
