I painted this following a residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Monaghan, Ireland. It was inspired by the mystical hares around the grounds and moonlit sky over the woods. The hare was a sacred animal to the Celts and the Buddhists have a saying about the ’shadow of the hare in the moon’. Hares can indicate a leap of faith or a lucky coincidence.
